The National Games were held from 6th December - 13th December where the audience eyewitnessed the brilliant performance by the Young Chess prodigy Mahrez Fayyaz who competed in a 6 - Round Swiss Tournament and demonstrated his astonishing skills and strategic depth ultimately securing First position and bringing home a prestigious Gold Medal. His journey towards the top of the participants is followed by victories against his opponents including Amaan Saad and Essa Hussain consolidated his reputation as one of the most promising Chess players in the local Chess circle.
Since joining the GCA, he has been a model of dedication and commitment. His victory in the National Games is proof of his never-give-up attitude from day 1 that even when faced with a loss by U - 12 player Abu Bakar he handled the situation with resilience and showed the maturity level which we often get a chance to see in professional players.
For Young kids, Chess is the ultimate training ground for life. Mahrez not only secured the victory but also proved a vital lesson that
“Success is not about being undefeated; it is about being undeterred.”
At GCA, we believe that real victory is the character that a child builds when they lose a game, analyze their own mistakes, learn from their own mistakes and get back to the board even stronger than before.
