Magnus Carlsen Wins 2025 World Rapid Chess Championship

Questions on Magnus Carlsen's motivation to be Champion? Well, he silenced them this weekend by in Doha Qatar by entering the field of 246 competitors. He has done it again like past 5 times, In a perdormance that feels like a masterclass in resilience the Norweian Grandmaster has secured his Six World Chess Championship title, despite a dreadul start to the second day which included the loss to Vladislav Artemiev he finished the enervating the 13 - rounds tournament with presiding 10.5 points.



As the environment was thrilling, he played on his own terms, despite the setback. Carlsen powered through the final rounds with three back to back wins and a strategic draw in his final round against Anish Giri . 


On the women's side, the environment was intense as Aleksandra Goryachkina claimed her first ever World Rapid Title  after an incredible three-way tie at the top. between Aleksandra Goryachkina, Zhu Jiner, and Koneru Humpy (all on 8.5 points) led to a high-stakes playoff. Goryachkina eventually secured the title by defeating Zhu Jiner in a 3+2 blitz tiebreak, marking a career-first World Rapid title for the Russian Grandmaster. The event featured a total prize fund of over €1,000,000, highlighting Qatar's growing role as a premier destination for international chess.
