In a lively display of Chess, Denning Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the Mastermind Chess Academy of Pakistan (Sindh Chess Association), successfully organized the "Checkmate Rapid Chess Tournament" on September 27, 2025.
In the event, some of the very best Chess players across Karachi and Hyderabad participated to play a Rapid 15+0 , Swiss Format. The competition was divided into four key categories: Under 12, Under 20, Above 12, and an Amateur/Youth section, ensuring a competitive environment for players of all ages and skill levels.
This tournament was not only a huge success in itself but also a prominent success for Genesis Chess Academy as two of our prominent figures secured top positions. As one of our Coaches, Sir Tayyab Ali dominated the Over 25 Masters Category while Academy’s pride and Shining star, Mahrez Fayyaz competed bravely in Under 12 Age Category.
Both of them achieved outstanding results and won with flying colors. The GCA star finished with an impressive score of 6 out of 7 points securing a well deserved second position in U-12 Age Category.
Sir Tayyab Ali's victory in the Open event was particularly energetic, concluding a tough competition marked by emblematic chess legend. His final round saw him face off against the National Master (NM) Sabir Hussain, a name that needs no introduction in Pakistani Chess Society. Both Sir Tayyab and NM Sabir finished the tournament tied with 4.5 points out of a possible 5. However, the victory was led by a clear superior tie-break score of 19.5 to NM Sabir's 16.5, securing Sir Tayyab the coveted first place while the National Master finished second. This intense final showcase highlighted the high caliber of the competition and underscores the fact that the hard work and dedication of team Genesis truly paid off in this thrilling event.
"Patience, persistence, and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success."
